During the last few years, our focus has shifted more and more to marine surveying, using the experience gained over the last 40 years. However, we still managed to complete two major projects over the last 8 years.
‘Momo’
‘Momo’ a 23 footer or 7m was a new construction to one of my own designs. The idea was to create a power/sail boat, that can be used as an overnighter, but also provided some exciting sailing. Her rig is a cat gaff schooner, which is fairly unusual. Having a fairly powerful 30hp outboard in an internal well, also gives the option to just head out there and go fishing. Being trailer able keeps the maintenance costs down, as she normally resides in a covered shed. Her construction is plywood with a 12mm bottom and 9mm topsides, all sheathed in fibreglass. She has a hinged timber centre board with a 100kg lead ballast.
‘Puffin’
Our second project was ‘Puffin’, an open 17ft fishing launch built in 1922 in Australia. Her current custodian has had her for more than 30 years. As the following pictures will show, she was in a pretty run-down state when viewed first. Lucky for ‘Puffin’ her owner agreed to give her a birthday. She was fully re-planked and re-ribbed. A new inboard engine was installed and everything remaining from the original vessel was re-furbished.
As usual, the pictures tell a thousand words.
