This was quite a special project. The owner wanted only native New Zealand timbers for the boat. We managed to source beautifull Heart Kauri for the planking and the seats. The seat timber had what is called a ‘Whitebait pattern’. Ribs were steambent Tanekaha ( Maori word for Strong Man), the transom and rowlock blocks were in ‘Black Maree’. The oars were handmade from Tanekaha. We built the boat to a design out of John Gardners book ‘Building Classic Small Craft’.
