17 ft Whitehall Rowing Boat

This Whitehall is built using John Gardner's Book 'Building Classic Small Craft'. Planking is NZ Kauri over Tanekaha ribs.

26 ft Pilot Sloop (Currently Under Construction)

26 ft. Pilot Sloop designed by American naval architect George Stadel in 1939. Plans for this yacht are available fom 'Wooden Boat' magazine. Construction will be edge glued carvel over laminated frames. The yacht will also feature teak cabin sides and a teak deck. We will update this page with new pictures, as work progresses.

Work progress on 26 ft. Pilot Sloop

Kauri back bone is fully assembled and bolted up. This is then setup upside down on 22 pre-laminated frames which will be bolted to the backbone, to create a rigid framework for the planking.

1 inch kauri planks are fitted and edge glued to the frame work. As planking continues teak double planking is fitted and glued over the transom framing to meet the plank ends

Hull planking is complete and after sealing and undercoating it gets turned right way up and bolted to its leadkeel. The interior is clear finished to preserve the natural beauty of the Kauri timber used in the construction

Out of the shed and into the water

After months of sanding and painting and varnishing by the owners 'Tara' is finally ready to be launched. First sail of 'Tara'

Finally the first time with sails up and loving every minute of it. We have undertaken a few subtle changes to this design, like putting all the ballast on the outside. This not only improved her stiffness but added extra storage space in the bilge.
